Can I Get a US Number?

There are a number of reasons why you might want a US telephone number. However, I will not go into detail of why you would want one. Obviously, there is some interest since you are reading this FAQ. With that being said, the easiest way will be to get a SIP phone provider that will give you a US telephone number. Therefore, anyone calling that number will ring your phone’s SIP client. Another (but more expensive) option will be to get a phone number from a company like Line 2, Sideline, or RingCentral. These providers will setup the US telephone number to ring to your account, and you will just have to download, install, and enter your credentials.

My opinion will be to use a SIP provider such as CallCentric. Once you set up an account with them, you would then need to set up a calling plan or add funds for pay by the minute. Incoming calls are free. You would then get their $1 per month telephone number. The vast majority of people in the United  States has a cellular phone, and their plan provides them with unlimited US calling as a local call. Therefore, the area code does not matter. You would then buy and install a SIP client. I personally use Acrobits Softphone which was $10 when I purchased it. You would obviously download and install the software. Once installed, you will setup your Callcentric account. If you set up your $1 telephone number up properly, everything should work fine. You would just now need the people in the US to call your US telephone number. Keep in mind, calling them will cost you minutes on your calling plan, or a low rate for outgoing calls.

To learn more about getting a US telephone number, you would need a SIP service (such as Callcentric). You can write to sip@frankpilone.name. You don’t have to say anything, as a blank email will work. You will get an auto-responder email going into detail of setting up a SIP service on your phone.
